Theme : The theme is the main idea or meaning of a literary work. It can be conveyed directly or indirectly. Example : “God creates dinosaurs, God kills dinosaurs, God creates man, man kills God, man brings back dinosaurs.” - Micheal Crichton, Jurassic Park “You know what's wrong with scientific power? It's a form of inherited wealth. And you know what assholes congenitally rich people are.” Michael Crichton , Jurassic Park Function : The theme of the dangers of technology and scientific advancements is profound throughout this novel. Hammond (not Mr. Hammond, my favorite AP Lit teacher), wants Jurassic Park to function on a low staff team in hopes of increasing efficiency and economy. So he has the park designed to be operated almost entirely by a huge computer system that automates all of the park's systems and functions. Like most computers, the system has some bugs.
