How to read this table : In the first three columns, you’ll find the question number, the maximum points possible, and the correct answer choice. The columns labeled “A” through “J” indicate the points awarded for the problem if this letter was the choice indicated on the answer sheet. Please check the Blackboard gradebook to see how you answered the Part I questions, and to check your raw score (out of 220 points possible) for Part I of the exam. Part I answer sheets will not be returned, and no regrades are possible on Part I of the exam!!! Question Max. Part II – Write your answers to all questions on this page in the space provided. If you use a pen, only blue or black ink is acceptable!!! PLEASE READ EACH QUESTION VERY CAREFULLY !!! 39. (24 points; each box worth 8 points) One stereoisomer of 2,4-dichloropentane is drawn in the box labeled “ A ”. Notice that the parent chain is numbered from left to right. Since this molecule has 2 chiral centers, the maximum number of stereoisomers possible is 4. In the box labeled “ B ”, draw the enantiomer of A . A numbered carbon “skeleton” is provided, you simply need to fill in the missing bonds. IF A DOES NOT HAVE AN ENANTIOMER, DO NOT COMPLETE THE STRUCTURE, BUT RATHER FILL BOX “B” WITH THE SYMBOL “X”!!! In the box labeled “ C ”, draw a diastereomer of A where the chiral center labeled “2” has the ( R ) configuration. Finally, draw the enantiomer of C in the box labeled “ D ”. IF C DOES NOT HAVE AN ENANTIOMER, DO NOT COMPLETE THE STRUCTURE, BUT RATHER FILL BOX “D ” WITH THE SYMBOL “X”!!! In each structure, use, wedges, dashed wedges, and normal lines, as appropriate, to show the stereochemistry clearly and unambiguously. Part II continues on Page 13…
