Melissa Kaplan September 9, 2015 Stat 104 HW #1 1. Question 1 a. In this study there will be problems of section bias, as the store manager did not chose a random sampling. A very specific group of people shop on Saturday morning. He should get a list of every customer who came to his store from a full month and assign them numbers and randomly select 60 of them using a random number generator. b. This is not a random sample, this is a very specific group of houses selected and therefore the information will be inaccurate. The village should randomly select houses from a list of all of the houses and do surveys online to get rid of interviewer bias. c. There is interviewer bias here. The survey should be done in the mail or online and the question should be phrased more neutrally and openly because of response bias. 2. Question 2 a. There will be voluntary response bias in this method. b. Picking from only one branch is not a random sample. Additionally, there will be nonresponse bias, as many people tend not to answer those types of phone calls. c. There will be voluntary response bias; people do not want to go through the effort of responding. d. This sample is random and therefore an accurate way to collect data.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
