(5 points) Consider the following grooves (semicircular, rectangular, and V , in the order shown in the sketch below) each of width W , that have been machined from a solid block of material. Assume unit length for each of the grooves. (a) The surrounding outside the groove is equivalent to the area shown by dashed lines in each of the cases. Explain why. (b) For each of these grooves, obtain an expression for the view factor of the groove with respect to the surrounding outside the groove. Express your result in terms of W , H , θ , etc. You’ll need to consider the entire surface area of a groove for this purpose. (c) For the V groove, obtain an expression for F 12 .
