The History of Human Resource  Management: What major landmark laws  made HR necessary Equal Pay Act (1963): prohibited discrimination of pay based on a person’s gender when members of both sexes were performing the same or similar jobs Title VII, Civil Rights Act (1964): prohibited discrimination based on a person’s race, national origin, gender, religion, or color Executive Order 11246 (1965): similar to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, this also required affirmative action along with prohibiting discrimination of gender, race, national origin, color, or religion

History of HR Cont… Executive order 11375 (1967): Prohibited wage discrimination based on gender Age Discrimination in Employment Act (1967): prohibited discrimination against individuals who were at least 40 years old but less than 70. This was amended and made it illegal to mandate retirement at 70 years of age Rehabilitation Act (1973): prohibited discrimination against handicapped people and mandated affirmative action, employing handicapped persons who would otherwise not have the same opportunities for employment
