Unformatted text preview: Human Resources Pedro Payatos Genoves Eric Washington Heather Inman Fernando Muxi The History of Human Resource Management: What major landmark laws made HR necessary Equal Pay Act (1963): prohibited discrimination of pay based on a persons gender when members of both sexes were performing the same or similar jobs Title VII, Civil Rights Act (1964): prohibited discrimination based on a persons race, national origin, gender, religion, or color Executive Order 11246 (1965): similar to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, this also required affirmative action along with prohibiting discrimination of gender, race, national origin, color, or religion History of HR Cont Executive order 11375 (1967): Prohibited wage discrimination based on gender Age Discrimination in Employment Act (1967): prohibited discrimination against individuals who were at least 40 years old but less than 70. This was amended and made it illegal to mandate retirement at 70 years of age Rehabilitation Act (1973): prohibited discrimination against handicapped people and mandated affirmative action, employing handicapped persons who would otherwise not have the same opportunities for employment History of HR Cont Vietnam-Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (1974): prohibited discrimination of veterans with 30% or more disability rating, those discharged for a military related injury, and all veterans who served between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975 Pregnancy Discrimination Act (1978): Employers must treat their employees and/or future employees like all others employed there with a medical condition Immigration Reform and Control Act (1986): Prohibits employing illegal immigrants History of HR Cont Americans With Disabilities Act (1990):...
