Roucelle T. Pestaño Date Performed: Experiment  11 I.  Objectives:  >To be able to identify the unknown solution. II. Diagrams/Figures for Special Set-ups: None III Outline/Schematic Diagram of Procedure.: Procedure: I. QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS OF UNKNOWN IONS  Prepare 5 clean, dry test tubes for the cation test (A) and 7 test tubes for the anion test (C). TEST FOR CATIONS: A. ELIMINATION TESTS Place 5 drops each of Cu 2+ , Fe 3+ , Ca 2+ , Zn 2+ , and NH 4 + cation test solutions separately into 5 test  tubes. Use fresh cation solutions for tests A-1 to A-3 and B-1 to B-5.   Take note of all color changes (in soln,  precipitate, and/or supernatant) as well as formation and dissolution of precipitates. A1.  A2.  B. CONFIRMATORY TESTS These tests are performed to verify the identity of the ions obtained in the elimination tests. There  are visible results already obtained in A which may be used to confirm an ions identity. Only one confirmatory test  needs to be done for each cation. B-1.  B-2. If precipitate forms, continue adding NaOH dropwise until precipitation is complete.  Note color and type of precipitate formed. Continue addition of base until there is no longer any observable change. Which of  the insoluble hydroxide precipitates dissolves in excess NaOH? Copper(II) ion, Cu(II) ion or Cu 2+ : The deep blue complex obtained by mixing Cu 2+   soln in A-2 with excess NH  indicates the presence of Cu 2+ . Repeat A-1 using 1M NH
