2Person-Situation InteractionsThose in the psychology field are familiar with Maslow and Rogers, the founders of the Humanistic Theory which focuses on positive mental health, which is the ability for individuals to grow towards self-actualization and become a fully functioning person. There is a belief among humanistic theorist that every person has the strong desire to realize their full potential. Further beliefs that humans have free will, where individuals have the ability to choose one’s own destiny. From the moment an individual enters the world, the growth process begins.Maslow and RogersBoth Maslow’s hierarchy of need, and Rogers’ person centered theory believe that humans need to become self-actualized. One one hand, Rogers equates growths to a seed, asking the question, what does it need to grow. One the other hand, Maslow believes that one needs to be self-motivated to reach our potential, arguing that only one to two percent of individuals reachself-actualization.
