Michelle Abbott 810803787 BCOR-1010-113 Dr. Arthur Matas has a new idea of making payments for people willing to give up a kidney. While this practice is currently illegal in the United States, he believes that it “would increase the supply of kidneys, save lives and improve the quality of life for those with end-stage renal disease”. The federal ban on organ sales dates back to 1983, when a physician in Virginia proposed buying kidneys and selling them to whomever could afford to buy them. However, this idea was not passed in Congress, and to this day it is still an unacceptable concept. Dr. Matas has a plan where donors would be able to sell their kidneys at a set price established by the government and paid by the recipient’s insurance. That way, kidneys would be a lot easier to get a hold of if there are people who are in great need of them. This doctor and his idea of paying people to donate kidney’s resembles remarkable product on his part. Coming up with this idea is very controversial, and while
