TEAM STEPPS INITIATIVE 2 Team STEPPS Initiative Patient safety and quality of service are important in the provision of healthcare services and it is the duty of healthcare professionals to ensure that patients under their care are free from harm and are satisfied with the quality of service received. In healthcare institutions, healthcare professionals have independent tasks and perform specific duties and they come from different fields of study such as nurses, physicians, and lab technologists (King et al., 2012). However, all healthcare professionals share a common goal of ensuring patient safety and quality of service. Therefore, teamwork and cooperation are highly recommended for improvement of healthcare systems. Team Strategies to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (Team STEPPS) refers to an evidence-based approach aimed at improving patient outcome using effective communication and teamwork among healthcare professional (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2017). Team STEPPS was developed by the Department of Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the United States Department of Defense (DoD) with the aim to improve efficiency, safety, and quality of healthcare.
