1. President Coone is baffled about how digital information from a computer can be sent
over a network connection. Prepare a brief position paper for management explaining the
way information is transferred from one computer to another over digital lines. Keep it
simple. Be sure to describe the types of devices used in data transmission. Include
comments on the role of data compression in increasing transmission rates. Justify the
observation that as a general rule, it is best to purchase the fastest devices your
communications lines can support.

There are plenty of ways to get digital information from one computer to another. You
can start with the physical layer of which is the network hardware including the clients, servers
and circuits. The circuits have two different meanings but for this we are talking about the logical
circuit in which is used to connect two devices, which refers to the transmission of
characteristics of the connections. When talking about the circuits there are two different types
of data that can come through a circuit. The two are digital and analog. Digital and analog data
help each other get the message to the destination. “Data can be converted from one form into
the other, for example, digital computer data can be transmitted over an analog telephone circuit
by using a modem”. A modem is a transmitter from the sender that translates the information so
the receiver can uncode the data once it is received. The modem from the sender’s computer
translates the digital information to an analog which travels to the receivers modem and is
received as the digital data that it once started as. With both of these the transmission may be
used both users have to agree on the symbols and rates that will be used; which means the
pattern of light, radio wave, or electricity which will be used how many symbols will be send over
a circuit.
During the process of trying to transmit and translate the data over networks there are
plenty of steps to come along with it. The first step is circuit configuration. With the circuit
configuration there are two types. Point-to-point and multipoint. Point-to-point configuration is
when there is one computer to another computer. The multipoint configuration is many
computers connected to one circuit. Circuits can transmit data from one flow of direction or both
