Kurt Humphreys ATOC 1070 Pre Lab Infrared Radiation and the Greenhouse Effect Objection: The object of this lab is to understand the relationship between solar and infrared radiation and how it heats the earth. We will also be able to understand the principle of how the Earth’s atmosphere and surface temperature can be determined from a satellite. As well as the relation of radiation to the temperature of the earth, we will also learn that it also depends on the amount of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and other gasses. Procedure: We will be using an infrared thermometer to measure the amount of radioactive energy in the spectral band which will let us convert it to temperature. To measure the temperature of the water we will be using a dial thermometer. We will also need a hot pot that will be filled with water to simulate the Earth’s surface. To simulate the atmosphere and clouds we will be using polyethylene plastic sheets held up by a foam board bracket. We will be recording all of our data on an excel spreadsheet.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
