Reactivity of Halide Ions LAB #7 Keesha Salcedo (ODD) Period 4 25 October 2016
DATA TABLE: Halide Salt AgNO 3 AgNO 3 + NH 3 AgNO 3 + Na 2 S 2 O 3 NaOCl + Starch NaCl Pearl White Transparent Transparent Transparent KBr Cream Transparent + white residue (dissolves over time) Transparent + white residue (dissolves over time) Transparent Yellow KI Pale Yellow Pale Yellow Pale Yellow Pure Black Single Unknown: #1 Pearl White Transparent Transparent Transparent Double Unknown: #3 Pale Yellow Pale Yellow Pale Yellow Pure Black -> Transparent OBSERVATIONS: Examining the solutions, almost all of them had a transparent color except for the 0.1 M AgNO 3 which had a dark brown, nearly black color and the 0.2 M KI which had a transparent yellow color. Observing the reactions of the KBr halide ions when paired with AgNO 3 + NH 3 and AgNO 3 + Na 2 S 2 O 3 , the reaction left behind some white residue which seemed to disappear over time. When stirring the Double Unknown with the NaOCl and Starch solution, the initial black color became transparent.
