Benchmark Assignment: Gospel Essentials In the beginning, there was nothing. So how did the universe come to happen? Did some rocks collide and make a big boom or is it something more spectacular and grand? Who or what made all that exists and what has happened since the beginning of time? There are many different theories and ideas on the subject. In this paper, we will explore Christian worldview and how it pertains to God, humanity, Jesus, and restoration, analyze the Christian faith, and reflect on my own personal beliefs. God In Genesis 1 and 2 paints God as the sole creator of all things, the sovereign creator of the universe. (Bible - ESV, Genesis 1) What the Bible means by God is the sovereign creator of the universe, is that he is the one and only creator and ruler of all things in the universe. He has supreme authority and absolute power over everything. (CWV-101 Lecture 2.) Genesis states that God created the universe and all things that in seven days. He created the heavens and earth, plants and animals, and mankind, Adam and Eve. He created Adam and Eve to be in his likeness. God wanted man to be just like him. (Bible - ESV, Genesis 1) God is said to be three parts of a whole, which are known collectively as the Trinity or Godhead. The three parts of the Trinity are God the father, God the son, also known as Jesus Christ who is fully God and fully man, and God the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is three persons, but one God. No matter which part of the Trinity you are talking about, the father, the son, or the Holy Spirit, they all equally qualify as God. God the father is a being who created and looks over everything in the universe and establishes and enforces moral laws. God the son, is God on earth. He is wholly God and fully man. Jesus shares most of God the father’s characteristics, with the 1

exception that he was born and died on earth as a human. God the Holy Spirit, is an incorporeal entity that one can feel. (Cummings, et al. (2017). God has many different attributes. Some of God’s attributes are that he is unchanging, eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, and all present. These characteristics solely belong to God as no human can be all-knowing or all present. Other characteristics of God are that he is loving, just, faithful, holy, and good. (DiVincenzo. 2014) Humanity Humanity was created in God’s own image. In Genesis 1:26 – 27 the Bible states “Then God said, “let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” It goes on to say “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” By being created in the image of God, humans also have parts of God’s characteristics within us such as the capacity to love and the ability to create. Mankind also can reason on a high level, explore the universe, and has the capability to communicate with God and to consciously worship him.
