Dr. Nabila Shamim Page 1 Unit Operation Practice Problem on Basic equation of Fluid flow: 1. The tank in the figure is full of water and open at the top. There is a hole near the bottom , the diameter of which is small compares with the diameter of the tank. What is the velocity of the flow out the hole? 2. Repeat the above making the area of the outlet hole 1ft2 and the cross sectional area of the tank 4ft 2 . 3. The venture meter in the following figure has water flowing through it. The pressure difference P1- P2 is 1 lbf/in 2 . The diameter at point 1 is 1ft and that at point 2 is 0.5 ft. what is the volumetric flow rate through the meter? 4. Water is pumped from mountain reservoir down to a town in the valley 280m below.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
