6 Pure tones. The pressure changes according to a sine wave function. The period is the length of time in seconds until the wave repeats. The frequency is the number of repetitions period second. The phase is the position of the pressure waveform relative to some reference point it time. The amplitude is the height of the peak pressure above the mean. (The amplitude is also sometimes defined to be the standard deviation of the wave about the mean; this is called the RMS amplitude.)
