US History Final 1. Who developed the first hydrogen bomb? John Robert Oppenheimer 2. Founder of NAACP? W. E. B DuBois 3. Reason for the Korean War? Truman believed that, if one country fell to Communism, then others would follow, like a line of dominoes. He was worried that, if Korea fell, the next ‘domino’ would be Japan, which was very important for American trade. This was probably the most important reason for America’s involvement in the war. The second reason was just to try to undermine Communism. Finally, Truman realized the USA was in a competition for world domination with the USSR. By supporting South Korea, America was able to fight Communism without directly attacking Russia. 4. Who won the Korean War? No one. 5. Describe US and USSR relations. ??? 6. Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give her seat to a white man. 14. How long did the boycott last? More than year. 381 days. 15. What did whites do in attempt to break the boycott? KKK used scare tactics. Bombings. Lied to the press saying the boycott was over to get blacks to ride again. 16. What was MLK, Jr’s occupation before 1955? Baptist Minister 17. Who inspired King’s non-violence philosophy? India’s leader Mohandas K. Gandhi
