Elementary ASL 1 Deaf Community Interaction For my first interaction with the Deaf community, I went to “Charades” here on campus . It was a medium-sized group setting with mostly ASL students and a few deaf individuals . I went to the event not knowing what to expect . While I was there, I was able to meet new people and practice my signing . It turned out to be both educational and entertaining, all in all the night was a lot of fun . I was able to talk to a Deaf student from Northeastern . First we introduced ourselves and talked about our majors . I told him that I was a pharmacy student in my first year of school . He told me that he was a communications major and that he had been living here for five years . He was originally from Mexico and that he loved Boston . I was impressed that he was so fluent in American Sign Language and English, especially since he is not a native here . Through my conversation with him, I was able to learn a few more words and phrases . He taught me how to say dorm, home, necklace and a few other miscellaneous
