Elementary ASL 1 Instructor: Jim Lipsky Deaf Community Interaction Halloween Costume Party On Halloween I went to a Deaf Halloween Costume Party . It took place on Northeastern’s campus, at the Curry Student Center’s Ballroom . This was a medium- sized event . Everyone there was a student; there were no teachers . This event was intended for Deaf students to socialize with each other on Halloween . Everyone came in costume . There were snacks, drinks and games for the participants . There were about six or seven Deaf students there, and about twelve hearing students at any given time . I met a lot of new people, both Deaf students and interpreting students . The first person I met was a graduate student named Liz . She is a Deaf girl originally from New Hampshire . She works at a school early in the mornings, so she couldn’t stay very late . She was very friendly and knew many people there . She was able to speak and lip-read as well . I noticed that many of the Deaf students there spoke and
