Dariya Khojasteh Mr. Finan 10/26/2015 “The Father of American Terrorism” Analysis “The Father of American Terrorism” is an article written by Ken Chowder around the year 2000 that outlines the motive and execution of who many people believe is the father of domestic terrorism. John Brown was a radical abolitionist who believed he would be able to destroy slavery by inciting a large slave rebellion across the entire South. He attacked Harpers Ferry in October of 1859 hoping to begin such a revolt or at least begin a war that would cause slavery to perish. Chowder’s purpose in preparing this work is to give information surrounding John Brown’s actions, as well as convince the reader that he indeed is the father of American terrorism. Chowder achieves this goal by presenting all of the facts to the reader and individually explaining how they tie into domestic terrorism. Chowder’s writing has a certain flow that achieves the goal of bringing the events caused by Brown to the reader’s attention as well as proving that he indeed sparked American terrorism.
