a. Why do some companies fail to develop HR plans as part of their mergers and acquisition strategies? Because most companies focus on bringing profit and success to the company and they neglect the significant part of the HR plan which is people. Turner (2002) argued that whether a merger or acquisition is successful depends on more than financial considerations. Success often depends on how well the two organisation’ human resources are integrated. Those companies also forget that every company has a different culture which should be taken into consideration before merging one company and another. Cartwright and Cooper noted that if the organisational change involves the creation of new departments or merging/acquisition, there are likely to be cultural issues. (cited in Paul Turner 2002) b. What roles should HR professionals play in these processes? According to Symes (n.d.) HR should be able to determine both companies’
