Expository Writing II Grading CriteriaPurpose: the overall objective or goal of a paper.All Expos 2 papers are persuasive arguments. Each assignment will have different audiences, topics, and genres, which require different writing skills and strategies to achieve the paper’s persuasive purpose.Focus: 1) the paper’s ability to clarify the main idea to the reader. 2) the paper’s ability to stay on topic in each part of the paper.Focus and Purpose are often discussed together because a paper should focus on its intended purpose. Often, if a paper struggles with focus, the purpose is also problematic, and vice versa.Development: the thorough and clear presentation of ideas and the support necessary to convince the audience that the paper’s ideas are valid and convincing.Development is often the area that needs the most revision in Expos 2.
