Push by Sapphire Push by Sapphire is a novel where loneliness and independence is present as in today’s society. Sapphire utilizes dialect, characterization, conflict, economic status difficulties, and setting to emphasize the extreme atmosphere in which the novel is shown. Sapphire exposes the reader to an extreme setting suffered by Precious. Push is based on some rough lives that people to have the choice not to live in. Precious is a 16 year old girl that is barely physically developing while she gets pregnant by her own father. Everybody is in life to survive; to defeat obstacles that occur, however at the end satisfaction gets accomplished. Historical Background According to the Book Review provided by Weird Mamas , Push was set in Harlem in 1987. During that time, Sapphire recently moved back to the city where she started as a teacher and moved in a rough neighborhood where she probably got inspired from to write the book. In addition in the
