Assignment 2 Popular Culture's Perception of Sexuality & Aging

This picture depicts a message that old people can still be looked at as beautiful and sexually attractive. No matter how old you get, you are never too old to get your “groove on.” There are many different aspects being conveyed in this cartoon. I will tell you what this cartoon says to me when I see it. As you can see from the picture, not everyone is perfect. Everyone on Earth is flawed in some way. Older people are stereotyped as not being able to still be able to perform. This is not true. Older women have lower sex drives due to lower testosterone levels, but it does not mean they cannot have sex at all. Some women have an increase in their sex drive due to menopause.
This man obviously loves his wife just the way she is. As we age, our body changes. I know mine has. I am no longer the thin, fit woman I once used to be. I have packed on a few pounds I wouldn’t mind losing. The lines that she is referring to are her wrinkles. I find this cute and humorous. She is telling her husband that she is the same woman, you just have to look a little closer. This would fall under the biological dimension. They have accepted each other’s physical appearance. Although their appearance has changed, they have accepted it. They are still sexually aroused by each other. It is obvious that they are sexually active, at least one can assume that by the cartoon. I would also think they have learned each other’s as well as their own bodies and how they function sexually.
