105B Spring 2008 Experiments #4 and #5 Overall goal: To combine knowledge of solution equilibrium with keen observations and laboratory manipulation skills for the practical purpose of qualitative analysis. Subgoals: 9 Recognize and understand on a qualitative basis, equilibria involving o acid-base o solubility o complex ion formation 9 Write clear concise observations 9 Independently develop a flow chart (decision analysis tree) from a set of known chemical reactions that allow conclusions regarding the composition of a solution containing a set of known constituents.

Unformatted text preview: or lack thereof, temperature changes or lack thereof, must be clearly written in a contemporaneous manner so that it is not necessary to add observations to interpret the result. Lab Exercises as assigned by your TA ( 0-1) points Results of your Experiment #4 Unknown ( 0-4) points 4 points minus one point for each false positive and minus one point for each false negative. Example: Mindys unknown contained silver and lead. She reports silver and mercury. Her score is: 4 (1 for falsely reporting mercury) ( 1 for missing lead) = 2 Mindys unknown contained silver and lead. She reports only silver. Her score is: 4 ( 1 for missing lead) = 3...
