Chapter 13 - Chemical Equilibrium reversibility : ability of a chemical reaction to go in the forward nad the reverse direction the state where the concentrations of all the reactants and the products remain constant with time s the state where the rates of the forward and reverse reactions are equal to each other s dynamic situation s equilibrium : If the reactants are favored, the equilibrium is said to lie to the left . s If the products are favored, the equilibrium is said to lie to the right . s equilibrium position : a set of equilibrium concentration initial concentrations s relative energies of the reactants and products s factors determining equilibrium position : law of mass action : Chemical Equilibrium equilibrium expression : All reactants and products are in the same phase. s homogeneous equilibrium : Reactants and products are in different phases. s Pures solids and pure liquids will not affect the equilibrium and are not included in the equilibrium expression. s
