Improving Attendance2Reinforcing AttitudeAttending class regularly is a key for success for any college student. Consistent attendance iscritical in being successful in the college world. Introduction to Persuasion Theory, a course at NorthernIllinois University, wanted to address students with chronic attendance issues through surveys. As a classwe took a survey for our first think piece. The results came back very positive in support of attendanceeffecting a student's grade. Any campaign that wishes to address these attendance concerns should takethe overall favorable attitudes towards attendance and target reinforcing these positive attitudes from theNIU students. By reinforcing the already favorable views students have on attendance, the best model toreinforce these positive attitudes would be the Drive Models. “Drive is a psychological term for anunpleasant state that people strive to reduce or eliminate (e.g., fear, hunger, or thirst)”(Stiff & Mongeau,2016, p.190). Also, by reinforcing the idea that missing class is only acceptable for a small number ofreasons, it will lead to a higher attendance rate.
