Barry 1 Mariah Barry Willers English 102 4 May 2015 Life After Death They say when you die, your life flashes before your eyes . Do you think that really happens or is it just a myth? In “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall”, Ellen Weatherall is very ill but she refuses that anything is really wrong with her . She believes that she is healthy and can take care of herself . Her daughter, Cornelia, brought the doctor to check her out because she feels that her mother is going to die very soon . Granny can start to feel death coming for her and she starts to fall in and out of consciousness . She wants to hold off death as long as she can because she feels that there is a lot of things she hasn’t taken care of, a lot of loose ends that she needs to tie up first . Katherine Anne Porter uses the technique stream of consciousness to take her audience through the last sixty years of Granny Weatherall’s life, looking into her mind to show us her disappointments, heartbreaks and distorted thoughts . Granny Weatherall’s last name is no joke, she has literally weathered all . Her life was never a walk in the park but she always managed to brush it off, she is a very strong woman . She has received unrequited love, she’s been married and widowed, she gave birth to five children
Barry 2 and lost her favorite daughter, and she has to deal with the frustrations of old age . Granny Weatherall is so used to taking care of herself and having everything her way so she hates being treated like a sick old woman. All of these things have made her the tough and strong willed lady she has become .
