Chemistry 100 Experiment #4: The Effectiveness of Sunscreen Name: Cecilia Araiza Date:10/29 Purpose: To learn about ultraviolet light and how it affects DNA. To familiarize yourself with the ultraviolet radiation used in tanning beds. To learn how sunscreen protects DNA. To understand how the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is measured. To evaluate the effectiveness of at least two types of sunscreen. Introduction: In this lab we will compare at least two different sunscreens to see which is most effective at blocking ultraviolet radia- tion. Read through the lab procedure, set up the experiment and collect data. The questions at the end will guide you through the analysis of your results.
