Jackson Hotels Inc. is continuing its attempt to expand it’s locations and enhance its process of attracting talent. Shirley Gomez, vice president for human resources, has found recruiting and selection for lower tier employees challenging. Due to a limited pool of qualified candidates, as well as a need to service high end customer, she believe the best candidates to target are senior citizens. Additionally, she is concerned about company liability for failure to conduct adequate backgrounds checks. Currently, she’s relied on newspaper advertisements and applicant interviews to recruit and screen applicants. This strategy has not produced the desired results due to high turnover and unsatisfactory performance. The major issues include: recruiting and selection strategies, the integration of human resource systems to modernize hiring practices.
