Mating Behaviors 1. Insects have various strategies to bring the sexes together and to ensure survival of their own species. 2. Insects have evolved various structures, etc., that ensure that sperm is successfully transferred to the female. 3. Male insects have evolved various structures and behaviors that ensure it is their sperm that the female uses. 4. Males have secondary sex characteristics that females can use to distinguish the males and also in certain cases to evaluate which male is more fit.

Why is insect feeding behavior so important to humans? destruction to our crops (grasshoppers and various caterpillars), stored products (grain or cereal beetles) and various plants (ex. Gypsy moth and Japanese beetle) destruction of human clothing (ex. Clothes moth) and our houses (ex. termites and carpenter ants) Transmission of diseases of humans (Malaria), domestic animals (eastern equine encephalitis), and wild animals (West Nile Virus)

Models are well studied biological systems for which there is a lot of background information. Usually, they are chosen for certain favorable characteristics. For example, the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster , a very important animal model in genetics, development, molecular biology, ecology and even immunology. Phormia is an important model of feeding behavior in insects.
