COMBINING NURSE LEADERSHIP WITH ADVOCACY 2 Combining Nurse Leadership with Advocacy Every nurse can become a leader, but it takes a lot of skills and confidence for one to be a leader. Firstly, one has to identify their strengths and weaknesses and then come up with a plan to counter the weaknesses. As a result, making a good leader. Being a nurse for some years, I have been able to identify some leadership traits in my character. This has been evident after taking the Skills Inventory of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurse Manager (Cherry & Jacob, 2016). I have been able to sharpen my skills, but I still believe there is more for me to do that will make me a reliable nurse in my profession. I will, therefore, address certain areas based on the results of the inventory skills management. These areas include identification of my personal and professional accountability, my personal journal disciplines, career planning, and conclude with my reflective practice behaviors and tenets. Personal and professional accountability Personal and professional accountability is very critical as it is a crucial necessity for progression in life. The term accountability is broadly used to refer to one being answerable and explaining every action and move one takes. The range of professional accountability can be measured by the personal experience, expertise, and education attained by an individual. As a registered nurse, I usually achieve not only my goals but the job objectives since I don’t aim at being held accountable by others but rather I hold myself accountable (Cherry & Jacob, 2016). Also, I acknowledge that I have a high level of professionalism based on the results from the nurse manager inventory tool. I believe that there is a healthy personal and professional bond, be it at work, at work or any environment whenever there is effective communication. I have a weakness in communication, but I have come up with a strategy for having the courage to say what I want and engaging the people around me.
