Bechard “The Last of the Buffalo” by Albert Bierstadt, is a very detailed drawing of his thoughts and personal experiences of the slaughtering of the wild buffalo. Bierstadt shows great detail in this painting. Visual detailed accounts from the death of the buffalo, to the buffalo fighting to survive, and the beautiful scenery these wild buffalo roamed. I feel that Bierstadt is attempting to portray his dislike for the slaughtering of the buffalo with this beautiful painting. Seems to me, the purpose of the illustrations in his painting is to convince the viewer of his view by use of vivid description. His view is the dislike for the killing of the buffalo, as he states in our textbook, “I have endeavored to show the buffalo in all his aspects and depict the cruel slaughter of a noble animal now almost extinct.” 1 He seems very sure about his feeling in this quote.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
