Alexandra Zavala AP English 12 Mrs. Willden 1-7-17 A Proposal Subject of Inquiry : How advancement in the medical field has lead to Grafts, Transplants, and Growing new limbs or organs from stem cells. (if not approved: The controversy of using stem cells from fetal tissue) Guiding Questions: How many transplants are needed a year? How would growing limbs impact the economy or medical field? Approximately how many parts,( or what percent ) of a dead donor are used when donated to science and how much is wasted (using only some parts of one donor and scraping the rest)? How effective and efficient is the transplant process (body rejecting part, wait list for many people wanting the same part, waitlist unfair?)? What would the impact be if transplants became obsolete due to 3D printing organs? Rationale: I find medical science fascinating and have a deep interest in the field as that is what I want to go into.
