Patrick Moore 2-6-07 Bugs in the News 1 On January 31, 2007, there was an article on www.msnbc.com regarding everything that someone would want to know about bed bugs. There was information about where bed bugs live, how they infest, how to get rid of them, and everything in between. It was actually a very interesting article, complete with numerous pictures. Dr. Harold Harlan is a bug expert for the military, and this article was actually an interview that Harlan participated in. The bed bugs in the article were identified correctly. There were many questions dealing with what bedbugs do to people including the question “Can you get anything serious from a bed bug bite?” Harlan answered very thoroughly and frequently gave used scientific research to back up his responses. Biologically, Harlan explained how bed bugs secrete their own kind of saliva which in it contains numerous different proteins which cause the itchiness, redness, and sometimes allergic responses that people get from bites.
