Discussion Notes November 7, 2007 * note what happens in each chapter of the apocalypse (eg; rev 4 or rev 9 or etc) Beatus and Romanesque Bamberg Apocalypse (1001-1002 or 1020) * space around the figures to make room for gestures Bamberg Apocalypse (1001-1002 or 1020)-- Christ Enthroned (Rev. 4) * represents Rev 4 (4 evangelists and the 24 elders) * the elders holding up cups * this is just prior to the 2 nd coming b/c the books are unopened, the scrolls are unopened * in a mandorla Bamberg Apocalypse (1001-1002 or 1020)-- Rev 9 (The Bottomless Pit) * bottomless pit on left, star falling, angel trumpeting, locusts with scorpion tails, John viewing all of this, lots of empty space * locust bringing torments with them Bamberg Apocalypse (1001-1002 or 1020)-- Woman clothed in the sun (Rev 12) * woman being persecuted by the dragon * idea of the church (represented by woman) being persecuted * the child is also seen as the church (acc to mayr-harding?) * dragon is some sort of demon, likened to the coming of the antichrist or agent of the antichrist
