Discussion Notes November 28, 2007 PAPER: use 2 or 3 images Romanesque & Gothic Architecture * Von Simsen-- top gothic architecture person * sguer was an advisor to the king, went to school with louis the sixth * suger was spending a lot of money on st denis? * medieval clerics viewed everything through 4 main schools of thought-- allegorical, tropological, anagogical (literally means uplifting towards the light), and St. Sernin in Toulous (1080) Pilgrimage Church * pilgrimage church, lots of space * pilgrimage churches are all very similar-- same style * spain (Santiago de compastalo?) (saint james “rose” from the sea on a horse covered in shells, so the shell/scallop is a symbol of the pilgrimage road to santiago) * Romanesque is really about additive building, heavy, expands * some of the key features in a pilgrimage church-- lots of people so need processionals, in order to accommodate those processionals there are ambulatories being used, aisles, transept, radiating chapels to accommodate altars, there’s a gallery (which disappears in gothic)

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
