HP 230 Fall 2007 HP 230 Midterm 2 Study Guide Midterm scheduled for 10/30/2007 The midterm will cover lipids, vitamins and minerals. Out of the following questions, 25 questions will appear on the midterm as multiple choice questions. Questions on specific vitamins and minerals will appear as series of short statements that you must match to a particular vitamin or mineral (note that vitamins will be asked separately from minerals). Questions about lipids will appear as traditional multiple-choice questions. Questions 1- 20 ask about vitamins, questions 21 to 40 ask about minerals, and questions 41 to 50 ask about lipids. 1. An injection of this vitamin is routinely given to newborn infants. 2. If a pregnant woman takes too much of this vitamin, she increases the risk that her baby could be born with birth defects. 3. This vitamin is involved in the synthesis of collagen. 4. The name of this vitamin refers to the fact that it is found widespread in food. 5. This vitamin may prevent heart disease by reducing homocysteine levels in the blood. 6. This vitamin is necessary for blood coagulation (clotting). 7. Deficiency of this vitamin is associated with night blindness 8. This vitamin primarily functions as an antioxidant.
