It is a threat because the players have to work hard to get the
approval in order to sell its drug.
It is an opportunity because only approved drug will get to
see its potential market and relevant patient population.
 
U.S granted patent protection of 17-20 years to new chemical
entities (pg 5, para 1).
It is an opportunity as the patent drug can only be
manufactured and market by the company that developed.
It is a threat because once the patent expired; other players
may manufacture and sold the drug.
 
Differential pricing strategy due to government intervention.

It is a threat because cheaper drugs may be bought at one
country like Canada and resold for a premium in another.

