MMW 1 10/8/07 Monday, Week Two Amy Thomas – Art Power – performing arts – E-mail for ticket, get extra credit I. Major types of evidence and techniques (finish) 1. Fossil evidence, artifacts, other archaeological materials (finish) -Laetoli footprints – not artifacts in the sense that they’re tools, but they are evidence -Lucy – a. afarensis – discovery told us that in 3 million years ago our ancestor was bipedal, found tools, evidence of cutting on bones which means that tools were used -fauna/flora – dating = tells us what kind of foods/predators there were at the time 2. Applications of relevant sciences -geology is required for anthropology -biomechanics – comparing anatomy of the bones and tissues – Look at whether something is efficient for bipedalism -Paleoclimatology – looks at climate change, what was the weather like at any one time; use flora/fauna to get the feel of how the weather was 3. Dating techniques -Absolute dating – actually get a specific date
