Mandeville B202 open to all – Saturday night Juan Campoverde – Illuminaciones – 2007 One performance in Europe After World War II people wrote pieces that want to be removed from pieces in the past -Demanding on the performers -This composer and this piece can be put into a style or philosophy of composition that has surfaced in the last 100 years called “new complexity” -Something that started out with a group of British composers New Complexity -Extreme speed and density of information -information that comes through audience’s ears, but also that performers have to take off of score -Performative information Flute, clarinet, oboe Violin, cello Piano, percussion -Extreme notational difficulty -Rhythm incredibly difficult in this piece -Rapid meters, irrational division – beats keep getting subdivided into different parts -Nested Tuplets – groupings of rhythms within each other -Changing constantly as well -furthermore – tempo changing rapidly -Woodwinds have a two staff system -Before -One what your right hand, one for left hand -One for notes, and one for mouth – note and sound, not connected to note
