The Classical Influence on Renaissance Architecture Renaissance artist revived the humanistic ideals of the classical past The main influence on Renaissance architecture was found in ancient Rome The Florentine Cathedral The Florentine was completed in the 1400’s Brunelleschi was chosen through a competition to complete the dome of the cathedral. The classical techniques of Dome building had been lost through the centuries Brunelleschi created and new style of dome with no architectural precedent, while the Florentine dome took inspiration from classical architecture it was like nothing before The Pazzi Chapel The Pazzi Chapel was designed Brunelleschi and sponsored by the Pazzi Family It contains Brunelleschi’s method of pietra serena in the decorative stonework o Pietra serena is a type of gray sandstone used in renaissance architecture The design of the chapel borrows heavily from the architecture of the Pantheon
