Rip Van Winkle Author: Washington Irving Rip Van Winkle is almost completely opposite of Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin Franklin the “self made man” goes on in his autobiography about self-betterment, hard work, and a living a humble life. Franklin was quoted saying “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. “ Rip on the other hand prided himself in being content not doing any work or supporting his family. All he wanted to do was drink and hang out with his friends and gossip. This translates to American lives today in that Franklin represents Americans that are very greatful to be able to live in America and who work hard for a better life. Rip represents americans that take freedom for granted and who are lazy. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson – Themes Accessibility, circles, unity Nature is a short book by Ralph Waldo Emerson published anonymously in 1836 .
