04.06 Adulthood Piagets Theory of Cognitive Development The Sensorimotor Stage (Birth-2 years old) Piagets first stage of cognitive development is when an infant uses its senses and motor abilities to interact with objects in the environment. Ex. My toys that helped me walk; my vacuum cleaner that made me feel like I was helping out. The preoperational Stage (2-7 years old) Piaget’s second stage of cognitive development is when you are in your preschool ages and you learn to use language. Ex. My mom told me my first words were dada for dad. Concrete Operations Stage (7-12 years old) The third stage of cognitive development is when you are a elementary school student becomes capable of logical thoughts but you aren’t capable of abstract thinking. Ex. Now I was attending school and learning well. Formal Operations Stage (12-adulthood) The last stage of cognitive development, is when you are learning abstract thinking. Ex. I am currently in this stage, where I am learning to be more independent and on my own. Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development Preconvention Morality (very young children)
