Ast 307 - Sep. 2, 2008 The (real) reason for seasons - Earth’s axial tilt Background Survey Those who attended the first meeting of Ast 307 on Thurs., Aug. 28, took a 20-question multiple-choice survey. This survey (not exam!) served several purposes: -To find out what you have previously been taught about various astronomical topics (establish a “baseline”) - To determine which topics require more attention in class - To demonstrate an example of an in-class “participation” activity and provide one point of credit for participants - To get you thinking about a number of (hopefully) interesting questions we will answer over the semester Background Survey - 1 Most Common Majors: Astronomy - 14 Chem, Biochem, Aero - 4 each Physics - 10 EE, Comp Sci - 2 each Math - 6 Humanities - 4 total Most Common Topics of Interest: Stars Black Holes Dark matter Cosmology/Big Bang/universe
