Being a global organization as well as the largest beverage company in the world [The16], the Coca- Cola Company is exposed to forces in the task environment. These forces include customers, suppliers, competitors and distributors [Wad13]. It is crucial for managers to understand these task forces as well as the competitive advantages such that it will aid the company in achieving long-term success and remain sustainable [MaH99], hence this summary will focus on task forces in terms of customers and examine the impacts it has on Coca-Cola’s competitive advantage. The company has multiple competitive advantage such as having the ability to understand what are consumers’ wants and needs such that they can extend their reach to these people to maximise profits as well as achieving other company goals. For example, there is an increasing trend of consumers shifting toward healthier living [DeF15]. Hence the company no longer focused on carbonated drinks i.e. Coca Cola but instead has increased its focus on having wide varieties of drinks to cater to different consumers’ tastes and preferences. The horizontal expansion allows Coca-Cola to acquire more customers such that the company can maintain its leadership position in the industry. With Coca-Cola’s extensive distribution network, geography and demography constraints are no longer a problem, hence with the diversified consumers’ taste and preferences, having wide varieties of drinks definitely served as a competitive advantage over their competitors.
