Fahad Saleh Cornell Engineering ENGRD 211 Class of 2011 2(a) Note about process: 2(a) has 5 parts. 1) f(m,n) f(m,n+1) 2) f(m,n-1) 3) f(m,n) f(m-1,n) 4) f(m,n) && m+1<=n f(m+1,n) 5) f(0,0) = true Each of the first 4 parts follows a similar process. It’s noted that f(m,n) is assumed to be true then the function being checked (ie f(m,n+1) in part 1) is stated in terms of a Boolean statement. Then, the right side of the Boolean statement is taken and ultimately “simplified” to the left side (assuming f(m,n) = true) thus proving that the function being checked is true (since its defined by the Boolean statement left side = = right side and right side being simplified to left side means left side = right side). A brief conclusion is then written recognizing each of the claims in part 1 through 4. (NOTE: f(m,n) is defined below)
