Essence of Protestant Liberalism Introduction For now two centuries, protestant liberalism remains among the most controversial issue within the Christian religion. It accounts for consistent division of the general Christian’s stand on major social and political issues contemporary to the society like abortion and same-sex marriage. It has also led to solemn criticism against the Christian faith based on its fundamental doctrines and the Holy Bible. Based on a different point of view, protestant liberalism received enormous support from liberals who interpret and practice Christianity in a more fashionable and logical manner. Protestant liberalism is generally built from the orthodox Christianity, yet constitutes divergent view on various eminent doctrines and practices that were originally associated with religion. One conspicuous element of protestant liberalism is their openness to other doctrines and cultures 4 . In many ways, the liberals often adopt scientific and various logical account of definition, explanation or theories into Christian religion, whether or not they are based on traditional Christian doctrines based on the Biblical concepts. They are defined by their openness to acceptance of scientific findings, validity of other non-Christian traditions and theories, respect for skeptical thinkers and doubters, among other characteristics.
