Veterans in the United States face ongoing economic hardship. Despite being lauded by the media and political establishment as “heroes,” they face high rates of poverty and unemployment (Rowe). They go off and risk life and limb only to leave the war and risk their sanity and health. They sit on corners, beg at stop lights, and rummage through garbage cans. Idolized for a day and then forgotten a week later when they are in need of our help and attention. Celebrating the decorated soldiers but forgetting about the ones who should be awarded just as much.Throughout history the veterans of America have come home to be with no assistance on adjusting to normal life especially for black veterans. The effects of the war start to take a toll and cause veterans to do what they must to get by. Some come back suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, missing limbs, and drug and alcohol addictions. Americans dust them off without a thought of the dangers that’ll occur when these veterans feel the neglect.In the movie Dead Presidents Allen and Albert Hughes followed the lives of two war veterans and their troubles with transitioning back into American civilization. “When he gets back to the states and comes home, he finds it very difficult to adjust to society mentally,
