Media Saturation is pervasive in our daily lives and almost everything we do in daily life is media related. The typical adolescent listens to o 2 hours of music per day o spends 2-3 hours watching the television o 70% live in homes with 3 or more TVs o 2/3 says that TV is on during meals o A fourth of teens live in a constant media environment o Teens go to the movies more than any other age group, and 50% go once a month or more. o 90% of teens have access to computers, magazines, DVDs, books, and newspaper. o 6-8 hours spent using media that does not involve homework, and only a small proportion is spent on books o ¼ of media involved multiple media, which means that you are watching TV and using the computer at the same time o Much media use takes place when the teen is alone How is the media an agent of socialization?
