    Self in Infancy As with most aspects of development; this ability  develops from early steps toward the  understanding of the nature of the self and  others.  Understanding of the self develops rapidly over  the first few months of life (may be innate) First 6 months Personal Agency or “I-self”- acting on the world with  casual power Second 6 months: realization that we are  separate entities via joint attention
